Feeding Therapy

Using multiple approaches, including the SOS Approach to Feeding and the AEIOU Systematic Approach to Feeding, our multi-disciplinary team strives to assist families in feeding challenges such as:

picky eaters

problem feeders

poor weight and height gain

food refusal

At Speech and Beyond, we have Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and Occupational Therapists (OTs) who specialize in pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders. These therapists take a multidisciplinary approach to work with infants and children with feeding challenges.

Our SLPs and OTs provide thorough assessment and remediation services for a wide variety of feeding and swallowing delays, including but not limited to:

  • Dysphagia or difficulty swallowing

  • Restricted oral intake

  • Food aversions

  • Transitioning from tube feedings to oral feedings

  • Delayed self-feeding skills

  • Transitioning to straw and open cup drinking

  • Oral motor delays including weakness or discoordination impacting feeding success with chewing or moving food around in the mouth

  • Failure to thrive or poor weight gain

  • Difficulty breast or bottle feeding including poor latch, fatiguing during feedings, poor transfer or prolonged feeding duration, coughing or choking at breast or bottle

Our feeding therapists have additional training with following programs:
